How Are You Holding Up?

Purpose and Our Values

Our purpose, vision and mission.

Why we exist, where we are heading, and how we will get there.

Our purpose

We exist to make it easier for people experiencing suicidal thoughts or serious distress to find compassionate, accessible and effective support. No one should have to face suicidal pain without being heard, offered real options and helped to find a path forward.

Our vision

An independent, capable not-for-profit that grows responsibly over time, with qualified practitioners, clinical governance, supervision, safeguarding, and culturally safe, accessible practice.

Our mission

To help people find hope, connection and possibilities beyond a crisis, by working with people with lived experience, health and community partners to build safe, accessible support that we review openly and improve.

Our values

What we stand for, and how it shows up.

These values guide how we work and behave. Each one comes with what it looks like in action.

Safety first

The safety and wellbeing of people, especially children and young people and anyone in distress, comes before everything else.

In action: We show crisis contacts before anything else, follow child safe and mandatory-reporting rules, and call 000 when someone is in immediate danger.

Respect and dignity

Everyone is treated with kindness and without judgement.

In action: We use plain, caring language, let people describe things in their own words, and never pressure anyone to explain or justify how they feel.

Trust

We earn and protect trust by being honest, reliable and accountable to the people and communities we serve.

In action: We say clearly what this site does and does not do, never claim services or endorsements we don’t have, keep personal information private, and do what we say we will do.

Inclusion and cultural safety

We welcome people of all backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culturally and linguistically diverse people, LGBTQIA+ people and people with disability.

In action: We build accessible pages, include supports for different communities, and work with community-led organisations rather than speaking for them.

Lived experience matters

People with lived and living experience help shape the support and information we offer.

In action: We invite and pay people for their expertise, protect their stories, and never require anyone to share their experience to take part.
